Many people have asked us how they could be involved with our team in meeting the needs of the people here in northern Mozambique. We know that you have special skills that could bless the people here. We would encourage you to think about ways you could use your gifts and skills here with us! Below are some ideas we have come up with which is NOT a comprehensive list. If you have other ideas or skills which are not listed below write us and let us know what you have in mind.  Please contact us before you begin any of the projects listed below.  It may take awhile for us to get government approval for some of these things.

Short Term Ministry Project Ideas (1 week to 3 months)

Sponsor an organization here:  Several decently organized groups exist here to help alleviate the suffering here in Montepuez. Ademo, the organization for disabled people is one we have had a lot of contact with. They would love to be sponsored in some way. Be creative. Idosos is a group for older people who get together and work a large farm together in order to be able to eat. If you are interested in working with these groups let us know. Glasses:  Many people here have no access to glasses. We are constantly being asked for ways to get reading glasses to help read God's word. These could be collected and shipped here or you could bring them here personally and help distribute them. Eye surgeries:  If you have experience as a surgeon or nurse you could organize a team of doctors and support staff to help the many individuals in our community with cataracts and other vision problems. This would probably be a one to two week trip working in a small hospital in Montepuez. This kind of work would require 6 months to a year to get approved and set up through the government so plan ahead. Dentists:  There are plenty of needs for people who are licensed and know how to pull teeth and other simple dental procedures. The minimal dental care in Montepuez is seen everywhere. You could make a difference in a one to two week trip working at the small hospital in Montepuez. Agricultural:  For those of you interested in agricultural work you could use your skills and teach people here how to apply the knowledge to their fields. Grain Storage:  Somewhat related to the agricultural field are the ideas about how to store the grain or products that you produce. The people where we live do not know how to do this well and could use your knowledge about how to prevent starvation between harvest seasons. Animal Husbandry:  If you know how to care for animals such as chickens, ducks, goats, sheep, pigeons, cows you could share your knowledge here and help people learn about their animals. Well drilling:  If everyone in Montepuez had access to clean water the number of diseases and sick people would drop drastically. If you could contribute your knowledge, resources, or contacts to drill wells in our area you would be blessing many, many people. Thatching:  This is a lost skill in most of the world including northern Mozambique. If you know about thatching roofs with grass and would like to train a team of men how to do it, let us know and you could see your knowledge bless many, many people when the rains come. Construction:  There always seems to be a construction project. If you are skilled in this area and would like to help out in some way you could be a big blessing to us. Prayer:  We NEED your prayers. If you would be willing to commit to pray for our team and our ministry we would be blessed. If you would like to come here and pray over us we would love it! Sunday School:  If you have any simple materials and resources for teaching Sunday school we would welcome your gifts here. The children of northern Mozambique are largely forgotten when it comes to teaching them about the Bible. We could use your help if you wanted to send resources, or if you wanted to come and train some teachers how to teach a Sunday school. Supplies for ministry:  If you have access to supplies for ministry and would be willing to donate used items in working condition such as: computers, printers, photocopiers, etc. you could bless us as we try to put out materials for the Makua Metto people. Other Ideas:  If you have thought of something not listed here write us and let us know what you have in mind. We would love to help you use your gifts here in Mozambique.

Longer Term Ministry Ideas (6 months to 2-5 years) For those with a desire to spend more time in Mozambique and share your gifts that way-here are some more ideas:

School Teachers for Missionary Kids: We need school teachers to come and teach our children.  This could be a one-year to many-year commitment.  If you would like to influence eager young hearts let us know! Teaching English: For those that want a ministry in your own language consider teaching English. This could be done privately or in conjunction with the local high school. Mozambicans are eagerly desiring to learn English as a way of bettering their lives and opportunities in their community. Literacy:      If you have a desire to teach literacy among adults (men or women) you could come teach people how to read or you could teach a group how to teach literacy to others. Come share the gift of reading! Community Development: If there is a community project you have tried before or that you want to try in a semi-rural or rural area in Africa let us know about it and see if it would be possible for you to implement it here. Computer Courses: If you know about computers and would like to share your knowledge here there are many eager people who would love to take a course on simple computing. It could involve basic software applications or even hardware installation, repair or troubleshooting. Youth Ministry: If you have a love for youth and would like to share it cross-culturally please let us know. The youth of Montepuez don't have much church influence but there is an open door for sports ministries and other ideas. Church Planting: If your heart is called to join an existing team that is focused on planting churches and training leaders we would love to talk to you about what God is calling you toward. Urban Ministry: While most of our ministry is rural we would love help in establishing a strong urban church in Montepuez. If your heart is called to urban ministry let us know. Neighboring People Groups: While the Makua Metto still need workers, other neighboring tribes do as well. Consider these other people groups in Northern Cabo Delgado that we have surveyed personally: The Makonde or the Makwe.
